To Save Your Head

She might be your mother, daughter, wife or even be your friend or fiance who is riding on the two 

wheeler alone or with you. It is your responsibility to take her safe and for her safety, wearing a proper helmet is mandatory.Knowingly I used the word “Proper” as it should be proper and can properly 

strapped and headguard you or your loved one. Fashion and uncomfortableness are different issues, 

which can be dealt with the trend or habit but the safety can not be compromises with the bogus 

justification and excuses. The colors of religion is much more fatal than Cancer; for which I don’t want to even spare a word-space in this blog , but when one dies; the color of joy vanishes and fades us 

with the religion and everything.

It is almost 6 years back Delhi Government had made it mandatory to wear a helmet for all pillion 

riders.But objection was raised from the Seikh community on the basis of religious ground ( Any 

religion in the World is far more older than the invention of Helmet and two-wheeler ; hence how 

this objection generates is not digestible) and amendment had to made in the Delhi Motor Vehicle 

Rules, 1993 in June 1999; where it (wearing of helmet) made optional for women. Recently on May thisyear when transport department requested for suggestion from the common people about their view 

regarding the wearing of helmet for woman two wheeler rider, the objection regenerated both from 

Seikh community and Muslim community. But with the initiative of the LG and the patronage of Delhi Traffic police, Transport Department, Delhi Commission of Women and many an NGOs who are working on road safety, the new rule which makes mandatory for all women two-wheeler riders in Delhi -NCR with an effect from10th September 2014.

A recent data says that every year the toll of average death in Delhi in two -wheeler due to not

 wearing helmet is almost 500 lives. But we never learn from the example until it happens to our own 

life.But here the chance is once and after that one may not get the second chance ever or to invite a 

permanent disability and or major financial hindrance.

The headline in most of the Delhi newspaper in Delhi on 11th September 2014 that Delhi 

Traffic Police has issued 5,200 challans to women riders and pillions.

NB : From 8 AM till 5 PM, the total number of challans issued stood at 3,236, but it rose to 5,200 by 

8 PM. ......... The vigil is on.
